He's going to spend if he is interested in you. The best dancers can gauge someone's interest quickly and figure out if the customer is worth investing more time in or not. New dancers get offended when a customer says "not interested" quickly, but you should thank him for saving you time and effort. The worst are the ones who "lead you on" or let you invest time and energy into them with no intention to spend or give you the heads up to find a customer who wants you.
When I was younger an older, veteran dancer taught me the art of having faith in his desire for you. I was impatient and antsy and didn't trust anyone. A customer promised both of us a big sale, together, but he had to go and get the cash from somewhere so he left first.
"Ughhhh," I said to her, "he's never coming back!" I was ready to hop up and go find someone else because I always worked like the energizer bunny until I collapsed with exhaustion. Slow feet don't eat, I always told myself! She just sat there like a Zen monk, not having a care in the world. She looked like she could sit there for days and not even give a fuck enough to move.
"He'll be back", she said as she smiled.
"How can you be so sure?" I asked.
"Because," she said, "he wants it".
He did want it. He did come back. She knew it from years of practice gauging a man's interest. Does he eye you? Does he come to tip you on stage? Does he ask about prices? Then he's interested, so he'll most likely spend.
How do you know a customer will spend money on you?
