An underrated problem while you're in the industry is burnout. Dancing is not a normal job. It requires a higher level of physical and emotional stamina. People can show up to an office job 5 days a week with ease, while dancers find themselves drained after working just one shift. If you're working late nights, the lack of sleep starts eating away at you too.
I was a workaholic for years. I hustled day in and day out consistently until I was taken out twice a year by some severe illness. Every time I would crash and burn it was a sign telling me to slow down and take better care of myself but I never listened. I was so young but my body was exhibiting the symptoms of extreme amounts of stress. My adrenal system was whacked because I was always in flight-or-fight mode. I thought resting was a failure.
This is your sign to put yourself first. There will always be new money waiting for you. There will always be a new shift. There will always be a new customer. Prioritize self-care. Listen to your body and emotions. Value rest and recovery as part of the process. Find a balance that works for you. Can you do 5 shifts a week comfortably or just 2?
Find ways to recover and rejuvenate yourself. Being healthy is more important than being rich. Only you can decide what amount of this life that you can take. You will eventually experience burnout as a stripper, so learn how that shows up in your body and mind.
Be kind to yourself.
